Starting on October 15, 2024, the Musée national Picasso-Paris will present an unmissable exhibition dedicated to the early works of the world-renowned artist Jackson Pollock. This is the first exhibition in France dedicated to Pollock since 2008, focusing on the crucial period of his early career, from 1934 to 1947.
This initial phase of Pollock’s creation was shaped by the influence of Mexican muralists, American regionalism, and also by European avant-gardes, including Pablo Picasso. These various influences reflect his artistic quest as a young painter, exploring new directions.
Quickly recognized as one of the greatest figures of American painting, Pollock achieved meteoric success. However, this status as a monument of American art tends to overshadow the rich years of artistic exchanges and European influences he experienced during his New York years.
The goal of this exhibition, titled "Jackson Pollock: The Early Years (1934-1947)", is to shed light on this experimental period, which served as a true laboratory for his future work. It reveals the artistic and intellectual context that nourished and shaped the uniqueness of his style.
The exhibition is organized around key moments in the artistic and intellectual evolution of the young Pollock during these years of exploration. In addition to Pablo Picasso, the exhibition highlights the importance of other key figures such as Lee Krasner, André Masson, Janet Sobel, and William Baziotes.
Among the exhibited works, visitors will be able to admire not only paintings, but also prints, sculptures, and other pieces, offering a comprehensive overview of the diversity of Pollock’s artistic practices during this formative period.
From October 15 to January 19, 2025. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
