The Centre Pompidou invites you to a captivating dive into the world of comics with a major exhibition tracing the evolution of this art form from 1964 to the present day. This retrospective unveils the diversity and richness of the medium, including Franco-Belgian style, Japanese manga, and underground abstract drawing.
This significant event highlights masterpieces from European, American, and Japanese comics. Visitors will explore an impressive collection of original pages, featuring iconic works by Gotlib and Hergé, as well as rarer pieces, spread across five floors.
Many of the artworks on display, previously unseen in France, offer a unique opportunity to discover comic book treasures in a museum setting. The Centre Pompidou aims to showcase the depth and complexity of this often-underestimated art form.
The exhibition is organized into twelve thematic sections, each spotlighting a different aspect of comics, such as horror, dreams, and humor.
Special attention is given to Japanese manga, which are rarely exhibited outside their country of origin. Visitors will have the chance to see original pages of Doraemon, displayed for the first time in France.
The event also highlights the work of numerous female creators, providing visibility to artists like Alison Bechdel and Marjane Satrapi in a traditionally male-dominated field.
Don’t miss this opportunity, as the artworks will return to private collections and archives in November for preservation.
